errr... It looks like all's not going to plan over in Texas. With revelations about SXSW's 'super sponsorship' and platforming of the US Army and defence contractors, it is believed that over 100 artists and guest speakers have now withdrawn from the event - boycotting in protest against sponsors with ties to Israel's war in Gaza.
The organisers of SXSW have issued a statement stating, “We are an organization that welcomes diverse viewpoints. Music is the soul of SXSW, and it has long been our legacy. We fully respect the decision these artists made to exercise their right to free speech.”
A spot on the bill was once the most coveted of any new music showcase, but this years' iteration has served acts a poison chalice as they tackle the financial implications that come with pulling out - with most acts now having to repay the funding and grants which would have made their trip possible.
"The financial implications for me, however, pale in comparison to the tragedies occurring in Gaza. I don't want to align myself with weapon manufacturers." - Conchúr White

"I want to remind people that boycotting is an act that has material impact on us and other smaller artists... My choice to not play is an expression of my own political feelings, but it's important to recognise that performative actions like this need to be coupled with real praxis. Protest. Donate to Palestinian organisations. Contact your representatives. Do whatever it takes." - Teenage Sequence
With huge financial implications for many, some acts, such as Fat Dog, have chosen to perform at the festival and donate their fee to charities to help those affected by the conflict in Palestine.
With a Texan governor telling acts "don't come back", girl math tells me we'll save quite a lot by catching these acts at local venues instead - so why not donate that extra cash here:
