The end of January can be a tough time to draw a crowd, but with a promise of a free pint and a free gig, The Grace’s disco-ball clad gig room is packed out from the offset. With support from Brighton’s genre bending Flip Top Head and Irish trio Search Results, the night was off to a joyous start as we await one of the most hyped bands of the moment - The Itch.
Despite being a new name on the scene, The Itch appear to have already developed somewhat of a cult following. Formed of members from the likes of Regressive Left and Lazarus Kane, this is the dance-punk supergroup we didn’t know we needed.
With a cool and collected attitude, frontman Simon Tyrie eyes the audience. Every track is as tight as the last as their rhythmic electro-punk immerses the room. Young and old bop along in sync as the band deliver a perfectly paced set full of soon-to-be hits.Time flies when you’re having fun - and The Itch’s set is over in a flash as track after track they delivered dance-inducing bangers.
While the post-punk era continues to thrive across London venues - The Itch bring a refreshing twist. With sharp melodies and a gripping intensity, the five-piece ensemble have mastered their sound. Flawlessly polished, their set takes everything that was great about the 00s New York dance-punk movement and modernises it for today. From their infectious anthems to their shrewd lyricism, The Itch are bringing the dance-punk revolution back to London - and it is very much worth the hype.
