Climbing the stairs of Paper Dress Vintage, it’s clear our Thursday night is gonna be a big one. Greeted by the sounds of Fierce Panda label mate Albert Gold, we found our positions among the crowd as his melodic magic washed over us. Slick and stylish tracks chime out as Albert’s smooth vocals effortlessly win over the crowd.
As Luke Duffett then takes to the stage, his on stage persona Enjoyable Listens immediately commands the room. Clad in suit and tie, he eyes the audience as he takes in their cheers. Having developed a reputation for his outrageous live shows, the Enjoyable Listens fanbase were out in force, singing and laughing along to jokes that are somehow still funny third and fourth time around.
He’s a character with an incredible bit -and the charisma and talent to pull it off time and time again. In truth, he could perform from the yellow pages and still find a way to make it entertaining. It’s therefore merely a bonus that the music itself stands alone, with singalong hits that have the crowd hooked from the offset.
Every track tells a story, and there’s always an anecdote to accompany. The crowd hold on to his every word as he delivers his storytelling diversions with wit and flair - like Matt Berry if he could deliver indie rock anthems. Any worries of the day melt away as feel good energy fills the room, with the band appearing to have every bit as much fun as their audience.
From his mighty croons to his polished showmanship, this is an act perfectly crafted to entertain. Flowing seamlessly between the fun and the surreal, Enjoyable listens continue to deliver consistently brilliant sets that will undoubtably leave you smiling till your jaw hurts.
